With impressive period mansions everywhere, Jala feels like a trip back in time. An INAH Historical Heritage Site, the Historical Center is a bubble of time where you can see everything from ancient buildings, such as the grand Basilica, dating from the 18th century, to spaces of cultural exchange, such as the Municipal Market, with its handicrafts and local gastronomy.
Ceboruco Volcano is the only active volcano in Nayarit, with more than 2,200 meters high. Since 1875, it has been in a passive period, ideal to be visited. This jewel in nature gives us impressive views, such as its famous steam vents, which can reach temperatures of up to 100°C, and incredible panoramic views of the surrounding mountains from the top.
Seven kilometers from Jala, there is a beautiful natural waterfall known as El Salto de Jomulco, which appears specifically during the rainy season -every year from June to September- and reaches a height of 30 meters.
In August, the charming and festive spirit of the town reaches its peak with the Jala’s Elote Fair, a celebration worthy of this land, where the most giant corn cob is awarded, exquisite food made from corn is offered, and there is music and dancing throughout. In addition, among the festivities, the people of Jala thank the Virgin of the Assumption, who intercedes every year in their favor for the cultivation of corn.
